See the pattern
Most SAT questions fall into a small set of types. Once a student can name the type, the question stops feeling new.
One-on-one tutoring from students who recently aced the SAT. We teach your student to recognize every question type, so every question feels familiar.
Book a no-cost consultation. We learn your student's goals and handle the scheduling.
We analyze a full-length practice test to map the question types costing your student the most.
Your tutor designs every session around those patterns and teaches the approach until it sticks.
Our tutors took the SAT recently, scored well, and are trained to recognize question patterns and teach our method.
Most SAT questions fall into a small set of types. Once a student can name the type, the question stops feeling new.
Every question hints at what it wants, which shows a student where to start.
Each pattern comes with an efficient first move and a quick check.
Students practice until the approach works on their own and at full speed.
Read each question for its cue, name the type, and apply the strategy that fits.
Spot the pattern, choose the fastest reliable method, and use Desmos on purpose.
The same recognize-the-pattern approach, applied to the ACT's English, Math, Reading and Science sections.
Support for AP courses and exams, focused on what each question is really asking and the strategy that earns the points.
Guidance on planning, applications and essays, so your student applies with a clear strategy and a strong story.
We couldn’t be happier with my daughter’s experience with R-Squared Prep! He goes above and beyond to make sure every session is productive, explain concepts clearly, and tailors his approach to her needs.
Roshan is an absolute genius and gentleman. He literally gives me faith in the young generation. I couldn’t imagine a better tutor. He helped my daughter by explaining in simple terms that she understood and related to. Occasionally she’d have a question in another subject which somehow he also had a mastery in as well. I was blown away.
Ava is a great student, mostly straight A’s, collegiate and AICE Cambridge programs, will earn 3 diplomas at the end of high school, but does not test well. I feel like so many of the people looking for a tutor are in the same position. With R-Squared Prep, she had a 200 point score increase on the SAT and 9 point increase on the ACT.

R-Squared Prep tutors took the SAT recently, scored well, and remember exactly what worked on test day.
Our tutors sat for the digital SAT recently. They remember the timing, the pressure and the questions that tripped them up, because it was not long ago.
Every tutor earned a strong score themselves, so the strategies they teach are ones they have used under real test conditions.
Tutors are trained to recognize question patterns and to teach students the same approach. Every student gets the R-Squared method, not one person's guesswork.
We believe the SAT is a skill, and skills can be learned. Our job is to give every student a clear method, honest feedback and enough practice that test day feels familiar instead of overwhelming.
Students learn to see the pattern behind each question before they start solving.
The fastest reliable route, with tools like Desmos used on purpose.
A quick check built into every solution, so careless mistakes get caught.

The SAT asks the same kinds of questions again and again. Students who can recognize them know where to start and what to do next.
Most SAT questions fall into a small set of types. Once a student can name the type, the question stops feeling new.
Every question hints at what it wants. Reading for that hint shows a student where to start, which saves time and settles nerves.
Each pattern comes with an efficient first move and a quick check, so students choose a method instead of guessing.

Read more →The test itself takes 2 hours and 14 minutes, with a 10-minute break between sections. It has 98 questions in two sections: Reading and Writing (54 questions, 64 minutes) and Math (44 questions, 70 minutes).
Each section is scored from 200 to 800, so the total score runs from 400 to 1600. Harder questions carry more weight than easier ones.
Each section has two modules. The first module has a mix of easy, medium and hard questions. How you do on it decides whether the second module is easier or harder. The harder second module gives you a higher score ceiling, so it is a good sign to see it.
Yes, on the Math section. You can use an approved calculator of your own or the Desmos graphing calculator built into the Bluebook testing app. We teach students to use Desmos on purpose, because it can turn many questions into quick checks.
Bluebook is the College Board's testing app. Students take the SAT in it on a laptop or tablet, and it also includes full-length practice tests with score reports, which is why we ask every student to take one early.
It depends on the colleges on your list. Look up each school's typical admitted-student score range and set your target from there. A useful goal is a clear number and a test date, so every session can work toward it.
Many students test more than once, and many colleges superscore, which means they combine your best section scores across test dates. Policies differ by college, so check the schools you care about before you plan retakes.
Digital SAT scores usually arrive about two weeks after test day. The College Board's official window is two to four weeks.
Most students do best starting a few months before their test date. Begin with a full-length practice test so the plan is built on real data, then work through the question types that cost the most points.
Not all of them. Test requirements vary by college and can change from year to year, so check each school's current admissions page.
Answers are based on information from the College Board. Test dates, fees and policies change, so confirm current details on collegeboard.org.
The SAT repeats itself. The numbers change and the stories change, but the same few question types come back on every test. Pattern recognition means noticing which type you are looking at before you start working.
Take circle questions. If a problem gives you any one of the radius, diameter, circumference or area, the pattern is "use r, d, C and A", and the strategy is to find the radius first, then compute what the question asks. If you see an equation with x² and y², the pattern is "interpret a circle equation", and the strategy is to read the center and radius from standard form, or complete the square if it is expanded.
Each pattern has three parts:
Students who learn this stop asking "how do I even start?" and start asking "which pattern is this?" That second question is much easier to answer, and it is the habit our tutoring is built to teach.
Most of the improvement in SAT prep happens after a question is wrong, not while it is being answered. Here is a short routine for turning a miss into progress.
Bring your list to your tutor. It makes every session more focused.
A full-length practice test in the Bluebook app takes about two hours, and it tells your tutor exactly what to work on next. A few habits make it count.
A single score can move around for reasons like nerves or timing. Look at the trend and at where points were lost, and adjust the plan from there.
Tell us about your student. We will reply by email to set up a time. No cost, no commitment.
